Welcome aboard the S.S. America. If you traveled on her this website will rekindle some memories. If you are new to this great ship, stay and explore, she has a great story to tell.
My experience came in April of 1950 sailing from New York to LeHavre. As a boy of seven I loved exploring this big wonderful sailing machine. Every day was filled with adventure, fun, and new experiences.
The America never left me, and 45 year latter I decided to relive and share that experience with this web site. I quickly discovered that there were many others who loved this ship and that encourage me to write a book on the America. It was another great adventure and what a story she had to tell!
Fifty Five years latter I am standing
again on the deck of an American
flagged passenger liner in New York harbor. It's the new NCL passenger liner "Pride
of America", in town for the christening ceremony and dedication of the S.S. America Library. The joy of it all brought a tear to my eye
and a deep sense of satisfaction in knowing that I had a part in keeping the
memory of this great ship alive.
