First Class Stairway

This picture was taken on A  Deck. To the left was the First Class Dinning room. The small sign on the lower left indicates to main deck. To boats. This picture gives a glimpse of the interior decorations. Furnishings reflected the ship's spirit, functional, fast, comfortable and safe. " Well, why not" said the ships creator, John Francis Gibbs. " The United States is a ship, not an ancient inn with oaken beams and plaster walls".

PS: The US Lines Eagle was created by Austin Purves. It was aluminium and measured L 29", H 42" (sold for $1600 at the ship's auction).
