At the time this picture was snapped, the
United States was being stripped of her contents which were transported over to the
auction. The ship required: 125,000 pieces of chinaware, 6000 crystal goblets, 29000 table
cloths 7000 bedspreads, 4000 passenger blankets, 44000 bed sheets, 81000 face towels,
44000 pillow cases. Over in the auction shed, the auctioneer had no difficulty selling
theses items. Some examples:
three dozen water goblets $375.
four dozen old fashioned glasses $400
two table cloth, with matching napkins $110
five silver plates wine cooler, vase, caviar server, fruit basket, pastry tray $ 2600
