Hi Larry
While on our summer holiday to Fuerteventura me and my wife and our
sixteen year old daughter hired a car for the day and with a map showing the
wreck site downloaded from the net we set off in search of it. well after
about a 45 minute drive on some of the best quality roads I have ever driven
on we found the turn off on to what can only be described as a very rough
dirt tracking fact it was a real bone shaker. we followed this track for
about 10km until we hit the coastline then after a couple of kilometers
along the cliff tops the wreck came in to view. when I first saw her it took
my breath away as I could not believe the size of her and how close she was
to the beach, she was a very eerie site and to be honest I felt very sad
that a once beautiful ship had been reduced to this big pile of scrap sat on
a lonely beach.
We spent most of the day on the beach gazing at her and taking
pictures and whilst we were there we watched a Spaniard have to be rescued
by surfers as he tried to swim out to the wreck and got himself into
trouble.
After a great day the fun was about to start as we had driven our
little fiat punto hire car a little bit close to the beach and we got stuck
in some soft sand, luckily there was a few people about who gave us a push.
then after all that and we finally got back to the main road we discovered
we had damaged a tire so I would recommend anyone visiting the site to hire
a 4x4.
Thanks again Larry
Regards
Mark
